Email Basics: Let's Get You Set Up!
It's Day 18, and today we'll introduce you to email—one of the most important tools for communication on the internet. Email lets you send and receive messages, share documents, and stay in touch with friends, family, or colleagues.
Email is short for electronic mail. It works just like traditional mail, but much faster. You can send a message to anyone in the world in seconds. To use email, you need an email address (e.g., yourname@gmail.com) and access to an email provider like Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or Outlook.
Visit the website of your chosen email provider (e.g., www.gmail.com).
Click on Create Account or Sign Up.
Fill out the form with your details, such as your name, desired email address, and a secure password.
Once your account is created, you'll have access to your inbox, where you can start sending and receiving emails.
Email is essential for many activities, including:
Signing up for services.
Sending files or documents.
Receiving important updates from businesses, schools, or social media accounts.
If you don't already have an email account, choose a provider (like Gmail or Yahoo), and create a new account. Write down your email address and password in a safe place so you can log in whenever you need.
When creating a password for your email account, make it strong and unique by using a mix of letters (upper and lower case), numbers, and symbols. Avoid using easily guessed information like your birthday or name.
